It’s the start of Week 2 of our May Course, and we asked one of our trainees, Sydney, a few questions about her experience during the course so far.

Where are you from and why did you choose the Czech Republic?
I’m originally from Ohio, but I’ve spent the last six years living in Florida. About a year and a half ago, my parents decided to move to the Czech Republic, and after graduating from university, I decided to follow in their footsteps and make the move too. My dad actually took this TEFL course as well, so hearing about his experience made me even more excited to do it myself.
Author’s Note: Sydney’s dad, Matt, was our trainee story from his course! You can read his post here: https://teflworldwideprague.com/blog/trainee-stories-matthew/
What do you think of Prague?
I love Prague. I’ve been lucky enough to visit quite a bit over the past year and a half, and every time I came here I fell more in love with it. The architecture is incredible, there are so many beautiful parks, and the city just has a great atmosphere. My favorite thing, though, is definitely the public transportation because I absolutely hate driving!
How are you finding the course so far?
I’m really enjoying it so far. I like how in-depth the course is because I’m someone who likes details and tends to have a lot of questions. The trainers have all been great at explaining things and making sure everyone understands the material. I’ve also met some incredible classmates, which has made the whole experience even better.
What has surprised you so far (either course related or Prague related)?
One thing that has surprised me is how easy it is to get around. I’m very directionally challenged, but between the metro, trams, and buses, I’ve had no problem navigating the city. It’s also so easy to take day trips to smaller towns. Another surprise has been how dog-friendly Prague is. I brought my dog all the way from the U.S., and she’s loving all the nature, parks, and places where dogs are welcome.

What are your plans for after the course?
My plan is to stay here in Prague after the course. I live in a great flat in Vinohrady with my family and my dog, and I’m excited to keep building my life here. I’d love to teach younger children because that’s where I feel I can make the biggest difference and hopefully help students enjoy learning from an early age.
