This past weekend was the annual Modern Approaches in Language Learning and Teaching conference in Prague, hosted by Asociace jazykových škol (Association of Language Schools). This conference is known as the largest gathering of foreign language teachers of all levels of education, language school teachers and language enthusiasts and featured topics such as:
- AI in Teaching
- Practical Classroom Methodology
- Learner Motivation
- Skills Focus
While our trainers and alumni are always present at the conference, both of our directors, April and Tasci, have previously even spoken at the conference.
But this time, they spoke together! That’s right, after many years of giving separate talks, they were asked to speak together, and their session hit full registration before the conference began. What is the topic that garnered so much interest?
30 Years of Teaching Experience at Your Fingertips
Those who registered for their session signed up to discover tips from their 30+ years of TEFL experience, and once they joined, they were greeted with the “The Timeline of a Teacher” where our Directors outlined the phases of teaching they have expereinced firsthand, and what they have seen from their fellow teachers:
- Preparing
- Starting Out
- Burnout
- Resetting and Recharging
- Finding the Balance
In each of the milestones in their Timeline of a Teacher they both gave tips, reccommendations, and anecdotes from their own experiences – all aimed to help teachers understand that we all go through these stages at some point, and that it is all part of the teaching process (and timeline!).
To close out the day, April was on the closing panel, to answer questions from the participants about current issues facing language teachers: many of which involve ai and the future of language learning/teaching.
