As soon as you meet me you will learn that I love hiking. So, let me talk to you about my favorite hobby:
Hiking in the Czech Republic: Go take a walk!
The Czech Republic has some of the most extensive public walking trails in the world. These trails are well marked and mapped out. Going for a walking day trip is as easy as picking two villages, finding the available trails on www.mapy.cz or buying a walking map of the area at the local book store and setting off. The trails can be red, blue, green, or yellow. You will see a trail marker painted onto trees or landmarks about every 200 meters as you are walking.
My money is always on the Berounka River area for the best hikes close to Prague. The train goes from Prague’s main train station Hlavní Nádraží about every 30 minutes. The would-be-walker can hop off at nearly any of the towns or villages between Prague and Beroun and find great walking trails connecting to another village where a train going back to Prague will pick you up and take you home.
My favorite four-legged adventurer Tony and I often hop on a train to Karlštejn. What better way to start a trip than with a view of a fairytale castle? Then we walk our way through about eight kilometers of forest and fields to the village of Srbsko, where we always stop and have some soup and a beer (for the human) to get our
strength back before catching a train home from the local train station.. The whole journey takes about 3 hours.
