We ask 2 of our current trainees who are taking the course together, Diana and Shahné, a few questions.
Where are you from and why did you choose the Czech Republic?
Shahné – I am from Augusta, GA but was living in Milwaukee, WI before coming to Prague. I originally found TEFL Worldwide Prague during my senior year of high school in 2019. I had no idea of what I wanted to do after graduating and heard about teaching English abroad. One quick google search and TEFL Worldwide was the first course that popped up!
Diana – I am from Milwaukee, WI. Back in 2020, I knew I wanted to take a TEFL course but didn’t know if I wanted to take it online or abroad so I gave myself a few years to decide. Two years later, Shahné told me about this program and we decided to come together!
What do you think of Prague?
Shahné – It is absolutely beautiful here in Prague. No matter which window you look out of, the scenery is great. Whether it’s the buildings or even nature, I’m always amazed and find myself taking pictures to capture how beautiful it is.
Diana – Prague is a beautiful and fun city. The public transportation is amazing here. You can get anywhere in the city easily and it doesn’t cost much. There are so many things to see and do here.
How are you finding the course so far?
Shahné – Week 1 was great for me. I really enjoyed teaching my first lesson and am excited to see how my teaching style will develop by the end of the course.
Diana – The course has been fun so far. It has been fun learning about our trainers, peers, and of course the lessons. It has also been intense with all the information thrown at us.
What has surprised you so far (either course related or Prague related)?
Shahné – As far as the course, I can say I was not prepared for the deep dive into our Grammar lessons. I’m having to relearn what I thought I already knew and then some. It is a challenge but I am ready to take it on.
Diana – The most surprising thing for me in Prague is how affordable everything is. Shahné and I went out to eat dinner and the total of our bill was less than half of what it would be back in the US.
What are your plans for after the course?
Shahné – Diana and I are planning on staying together for at least a year after completing our course. We are looking into teaching in other countries outside of the Czech Republic but would love to come back. My ultimate goal is to teach in a Spanish speaking country as I would like to become fluent in Spanish. I am truly looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish after receiving my TEFL certification. Diana – My goal is to teach in China and become more fluent in Mandarin. I’d like to eventually use what I learn here at TEFL Worldwide Prague to teach English and Mandarin.
