We asked one of our trainees, Julia, a few questions about her experience during the course so far.
Where are you from and why did you choose the Czech Republic?
I come from Poland, but I’ve spent most of my adult life abroad. It was always my dream to live elsewhere, and after experiencing life in cities like Cracow, Paris, Cádiz, and Lisbon, I feel like I’ve finally found a place that brings together everything I loved about those places. Almost as if this perfect spot on Earth really does exist.
After returning from Lisbon, I knew I wanted to stay close to home – close to my friends and family – while still living in a vibrant, inspiring city. I feel that the arts in Central Europe are truly flourishing right now, and I wouldn’t want to be far from that energy. And luckily, Warsaw, Cracow, and many other amazing cities are just a train ride away.
What do you think of Prague?
This city has the elegance of Paris, the cosy charm of Cádiz, and that feeling of freedom you get in Lisbon. Its design and artistic vibe remind me a lot of Cracow. Prague has a kind of warmth that’s hard to put into words – there’s something really inviting about it. The culinary scene is amazing, the people are lovely, and it feels like a dreamy place for someone who values the art of living.
How are you finding the course so far?
This has been one of the best learning experiences I’ve ever had. The course is intense, but incredibly rewarding. Despite the long hours spent in the classroom, I never once felt bored or discouraged. It’s clear that the trainers speak from real, hands-on experience, and that practical perspective makes all the difference. I haven’t noticed any weak points, and the level of organization has been truly impressive.
Also, I really value personalized feedback – not just focusing on where I can improve, but also acknowledging my strengths. It gives me the real chance to improve my teaching skills, sometimes even overnight.
What has surprised you so far (either course related or Prague related)?
I had dreamed of becoming a teacher for a long time, but I used to think that not being a native English speaker would limit my opportunities. To my surprise, that hasn’t been the case at all. In fact, having learned the language myself helps me relate to my students – I understand their perspective and know which explanations made things click for me. It can even be motivating for them to see that fluency is reachable.
It’s also fascinating to see how each of our teachers has a different style, yet the quality of the lessons remains consistently high. I’m amazed by how much room there is in this profession to express our own personalities.
What are your plans for after the course?
I’m planning to stay in Prague: spend time exploring my teaching style and the types of lessons I’m best at and enjoy the most. I’m also tempted by the idea of teaching in Asia someday – who knows? The night is young!
