We asked one of our trainees, Jake, a few questions about his experience during the course so far.
Where are you from and why did you choose the Czech Republic?
I’m from Florida, USA, and the idea of TEFL Worldwide was originally brought up to me by a friend who took this course a few years ago. I chose Prague because when faced with the choice between teaching in Florida and teaching here, the decision was obvious!
What do you think of Prague?
It’s such a beautiful city with so much culture and history, but also so much fun to be had. I’ve only been here a few weeks as of writing, so there’s a great deal of exploring left for me to do, but it really feels like a place that has everything.
How are you finding the course so far?
I’m really enjoying it. The days are long and a lot of information is packed into every session, but that’s what it takes to get TEFL certified in four weeks! I came prepared and ready to work hard, so it’s certainly a welcome challenge. I feel that I’m really growing as a teacher every day.
What has surprised you so far (either course related or Prague related)?
I’ve never been outside of the US before this, so honestly, everything is surprising me. Power outlets are different, light switches are different, etiquette is different, there’s a million little differences! Every day I figure out how to navigate another nuance of life and culture here, and it’s been an extremely rewarding experience.
What are your plans for after the course?
I’m still getting to know the area, and I’ve made fast friends with some TEFL Worldwide alumni and fellow trainees, so I plan on staying here and getting to work. For the foreseeable future, this feels like the place for me!
