When I was a little girl my mom told me that books are the best of friends. They don’t leave you, they meet you where you are, you can return to them again and again. My goal is to meet as many new friends as possible, so my reading list is long and never ending.
As summer comes to an end, I’ll give you my top three summer reading tips from 2026:

The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
This YA mystery was recommended by a friend’s teenage son. I’m always up for trying new books and I love when I can read along with someone so we can talk about the book as we go. Books are not only a solitary enjoyment for me. It follows a teen who finds out that she’s inherited a vast fortune, but doesn’t know why. There are twists and turns all the way to the end. I like YA lit because it isn’t afraid to play with reality. Jennifer Lynn Barnes definitely made my blood pressure rise in a few chapters. And the best part was dissecting the ending with reading buddy.
The Husbands by Holly Gramazio
Suspend all reality with this one and get ready to go for a wild ride. One day a woman’s husband goes to the attic but when he returns…it’s a different husband! Everytime a husband goes up to the attic, reality or the universe shifts and someone different returns. Even the furniture and decorations shift as each new parallel universe unfolds. This book poses some big questions about what it means to be satisfied with one’s life and how to love in an ever changing world.
Call the Midwife by Jennifer Worth
I knew that there existed a BBC television series titled “Call the Midwife”, but I didn’t know it was actually based on the true experiences of a Jennifer Worth in 1950s London. This book was funny and heartbreaking, surprisingly modern and also a good reminder of how far society has come. Each chapter is a memory of a woman helped through bringing life into this world, and the amazing women who dedicated their lives to being the midwife that is called in all weather, day or night, in happiness or fear.
