We strive to give you a “home away from home” within our TEFL alumni community. To do so, we hold various celebrations of holidays througout the year. Read below to find out how we celebrated “A TEFL Thanksgiving”.
While not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving, we decided to host our own, open to all of our alumni and friends here in Prague. If it was your 1st Thanksgiving away from home, you wouldn’t have to miss it, and if you’ve NEVER celebrated one before, this was your chance!
Thursday, November 28th, th TEFL alumni (and guests) gathered in their beloved TEFL classroom and were surprised to find it transformed into a Thanksgiving Feast. The decorations were put up, the Macy’s Day Parade was on view, and the Spotify DJ was filling everyone’s ears. To join the feast, all you needed to do was bring a dish to share. Then, you could eat until your waistband couldn’t take it anymore! About 30 of our alumni (and guests) were in attendance, including 2 furry friends (we love being a dog-friendly office).
The dishes that filled the table ranged from various salads, cornbread, stuffing, cranberry sauce, macaroni and cheese (vegan AND vegetarian version), sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, to, of course – TURKEY! The spread was not only vegetarian friendly, but vegan friendly as well (obviously, not the Turkey!). The dessert bar full of cookies, brownies, and pies included vegan versions while still happily fulfilling the traditional needs of both pumpkin and apple pie.
After everyone ate (and drank!) until they couldn’t anymore, it was prizes time! While no, there aren’t NORMALLY prizes at Thanksgiving, our TEFL team wanted to give thanks to our wonderful alumni community with more than just good food. So, everyone added their names to a free raffle and we gave away: a Teacher Swag Bag (complete with journals and other treats), a Chocolate Advent Calenday, and 2 gift vouchers – Luxor Books and Wolt Delivery.
So, even if you aren’t “home” during the holiday season, you won’t be without your TEFL family.
