My name is Veronika, and at the time of taking the TEFL Course with TEFL Worldwide Prague, I was 40 years old. I was born with Asperger’s syndrome and due to it, I developed clinical depression.
People with Asperger’s syndrome and depression do not like travelling because they cannot foretell the difficulties and risks which could happen on the trip. So my life before taking the TEFL Course unfolded in my room before my PC. Once I was searching for teaching qualifications to teach English language, and I came across the TEFL Certificate. As I did not like travelling, I wanted to take the certificate online. I thought that nobody would know about it, if I failed or not. However, with the time passing, I decided to to take the course in Prague.
Firstly, I did not expect my parents to agree with the idea. To my surprise, they did accept it and agreed to help me financially to cover the accommodation costs. Neither did believe my doctors, who thought I was just joking about going to Prague.
I thought the TEFL Course would be very easy because I had studied Spanish at university and we had done similar activites there. But we did not do lesson plans and write down everything in detail. For example: The teacher gives the handout to the students.
When I woke up on the day of my first teaching, I noticed that my hair had become completely wet due to stress. However, I promised to do my best. I told myself: OK, I would teach as I can, and later, I would modify it. I did not expect my teaching to be as successful as it was. So I gained more confidence with following teaching practices. I also became more independent. I had only myself to rely on and one else.
When I came home and I had my appointment with my doctor. His first question was not the usual: How are you? How are you feeling? but: Were you in Prague? My answer: Of course, I was.
My doctor also noticed that I started to talk more. Since the course completion I have visited Prague twice and I am sure that I will visit Prague more. Also, I visited many places in Czech Republic and elsewhere in Europe. I have become a content creator for one tourist platform: I run a travel blog, where I write about places which I have visited: https://www.viajareurope.eu/ I have also established my language school: CEO English.
