Advice from the June Graduates

Our June 2026 just graduated, and before they departed for the last time, we asked them what advice they would give to the next course.

Here’s some of what they said:

  • be happy
  • stay calm
  • come into the first week with anopen mind
  • give the new techniques a try
  • be receptive to feedback
  • lean on your colleagues
  • be flexible
  • stay in tune with your own needs – if you’re hitting a wall, know what you need to calm down and think properly
  • keep your mind focused on your strengths and path to improvement, not weaknesses
  • don’t be too nervous about the students because they’re a lot more engaged than you’d expect
  • be open withyour struggles and talk to your fellow classmates – pain shared is lessened and all that
  • don’t put yourself on a pedestal, or hold yourself to an impossible standard. You are going to make mistakes, and a good sense of humor will help you feel more confident, and make you more relatable to your students.
  • being open to feedback as this can provide great insight into your personal development
  • keep focusing on the students’ needs rather than impressing them with all you know about teaching
  • don’t be afraid of making mistakes, as part of each lesson will help you learn and improve
  • resist the urge to fill the silence
  • keep your lesson plan clear and easy to follow
