Our August 2023 TEFL course just graduated, and before they departed for the last time, we asked them what advice they would give to the new course attendees.

Here’s some of what they said:

  • Have fun with your students during your lessons. Teaching and learning should be fun! It makes it more enjoyable for everyone.
  • Make sure that you give yourself some time to actually look around Prague.
  • Try and set some time aside at the weekend to get a head start on things.
  • Have fun and be kind to yourself, there is no such thing as the perfect lesson!
  • Always be yourself. Be as authentic as you can be! Students are humans and appreciate your humanity.
  • Don’t be afraid of grammar, it senses fear. I am serious! But you will get used to it. Itmay be overwhelming and intimidating but you will get there!
  • We all have bad days also, so don’t worry if you don’t do a lesson too well, because you can always come back from it.
  • Feedback is important, don’t ignore it!
  • Study your grammar, use the textbooks, and don’t be afraid to ask for help or to take critique from instructors.
  • Enjoy the process, let go of your emotions, and be prepared. Everything is going to be just fine.
  • Take good notes and get familiar with lesson structures and teaching routines which you can use in different types of lessons.
  • Be patient with yourself!
  • Talk to your trainers or your peers if you are feeling overwhelmed and need help, that is what they are here for.
  • Try to have fun with the teaching practices. The students are wonderful, try to relax and learn to bounce off of them, it makes it easier.
  • Take things one thing at a time, utilize your resources, and to know that at the end of the day it’s just more experience.
  • Be confident and know that you can do it!
  • Relax when teaching. The energy a teacher gives off is infections and nobody wants to teach an anxious class.
  • Study the grammar that pertains to your lesson the night before. Students have questions and deserve the correct answer.

In just 4 weeks you can be teaching English abroad. TEFL Worldwide was awarded as the Top TEFL Certification Course of 2018 and 2019! Courses offered monthly.
